Absztrakt
A kötet teljesen új perspektívából mutatja be a világ jogrendszereit, mert a szerző szakít az eddigi sémákkal és olyan új rendszertant alkot, amelyben az európai mellett az angolszász jog világa éppúgy megtalálja a helyét, mint a kínai, a japán, a zsidó és az iszlám jog, sőt, a természeti népek szokásai is.
A sorokat olvasva olyan új fogalmakkal ismerkedünk meg, mint a legiszlatív, interpretív és konszenzuális jogi rendszer, a normatív dialektus, a fogolyállam vagy a jogrendszerek dinamikáját leíró adaptáció és transzformáció, amelynek révén párhuzamos vagy összetett rendszerek születnek. E valóban globális merítésű könyv feltárja az egyes rendszerek mögött meghúzódó nagyon eltérő emberképet és a társadalomformáló erejű ideológiák hatásait is.
A mű nem leíró jellegű ismertetése az egyes jogi kultúráknak, mert elsősorban arra keresi a választ, hogy milyen okság és összefüggésrendszer mutatható ki az egyes civilizációk és azok jogfelfogása között, miközben időben és térben hatalmas utazásokat teszünk Rómától a posztmodern világig, a germán szokásoktól a japán szamurájok államáig.
