Absztrakt

The issue of European sovereignty, nowadays rather called European strategic autonomy, has been marked by controversy both in the academic and political community. This book is intended to contribute to a clearer understanding of the concept by describing its evolution and analysing its content. The authors of the studies in the volume examine the factors which may underpin and reinforce, or, on the contrary, weaken the idea of the strategic autonomy of the European Union. From this perspective, specific topics are placed under scrutiny: the operation of the European Peace Facility, European defence industry ties and defence innovation, as well as policy areas which may enhance the pace of the development of European strategic autonomy: energy policy, space strategy, digital sovereignty. The final part of the volume investigates how leading powers of the European Union, France, Germany and Italy, and a regional power of East Central Europe, Poland, relate to the construction of the strategic autonomy of the Union. Finally, our homeland’s, Hungary’s viewpoint and efforts are discussed. We recommend the overview provided by the book to students and researchers of EU affairs and international security and defence policy.
