Synopsis

The European Union has increasingly focused on consumer protection regulations in recent years, aiming, on the one hand, to safeguard consumers’ health and safety and ensure a high level of consumer protection, and on the other hand, to harmonise economic and environmental considerations while maintaining the EU’s competitiveness. In the field of consumer protection legislation, new concepts have emerged, such as greenwashing, early obsolescence, durability, reparability score, and harmonised label. The new EU consumer protection regulations introduce significant changes for producers, traders, and consumers alike. The obligations imposed on affected businesses by these regulations may result in substantial financial burdens, while on the consumer side, conscious purchasing will become an expected norm.
