The Location of Military Airbases in Hungary Relative to Power Plants
Synopsis
The aim of this study is to examine the geographical location of Hungarian military airbases in relation to domestic conventional (i.e. non-renewable, such as nuclear, coal, gas, etc.) power plants. The research explores spatial relationships and potential clustering between military airbases and power plants. Various spatial datasets and location patterns are analyzed, with consideration given to strategic, defense, and logistical factors. Understanding the connections between military airbases and power plants is of critical importance for national security, as the strategic value and potential vulnerability of power plants to attacks have a direct impact on defense planning. Using graph theoretical methods, the authors examined the energy supply interdependencies of three military airbases – Pápa, Kecskemét, and Szolnok – with particular focus on comparing network structure and straight-line distances.
