Absztrakt
E kötet arra keresi a választ, hogy a magyar zsidóság múltja milyen kapcsolódási pontokat hordoz a tágabb magyar történelem nagyobb kérdéseihez és problémáihoz, illetve e problémák hogyan, milyen körülmények között jelentek meg a trianoni Magyarországon és bizonyos, nem Magyarországhoz tartozó, de (történelmileg) magyarlakta területeken. Az anyaország és a diaszpóra kettősségében elsődlegesen azt vizsgálja meg, mennyire lehetett magyar zsidónak lenni az évszázadok folyamán a Kárpát-medencében. De a horizontot kitágítva a palesztinai/izraeli magyar zsidóság is előkerül, csakúgy, mint például azok a zsidó vallásjogi problémák, amelyeket a különféle hadseregekben szolgáló zsidó katonák léte jelentett a hagyomány számára olyan területeken, ahol magyar nyelvű zsidók előfordultak. Mindemellett szó esik a korban épült zsinagógákról, valamint egyes régiók (magyar nyelvű) zsidóságáról is.
A magyar-zsidó múlt a különféle földrajzi egységek által nyer új értelmet, hiszen a vallási, gondolkodásbeli, társadalmi és építészeti változásokat a magyar tájak nem pusztán közvetítették, de formálták is.
The book is a bilingual volume of papers edited from the presentations of the conference of the Thomas Molnár Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of Public Service, held in February 2018. The authors seek to answer the question of how the past of Hungarian Jewry relates to the larger issues and problems of wider Hungarian history, and how and under what circumstances these problems emerged in Trianon’s Hungary and in certain (historically) Hungarian-inhabited areas outside Hungary.
The volume thus primarily examines the duality of the motherland and the diaspora, and the extent to which it was possible to be a Hungarian Jew in the Carpathian Basin over the centuries. But broadening the horizon, Hungarian Jewry in Palestine/Israel also comes up, as do, for example, the problems of Jewish religious law that the existence of Jewish soldiers serving in various armies has traditionally posed in areas where Hungarian-speaking Jews were present. In addition, there are studies of the synagogues built in the period, and of the (Hungarian-speaking) Jewry of certain regions.
The Hungarian–Jewish past gains new meaning through the various geographical units, since the Hungarian landscapes not only mediated but also shaped religious, intellectual, social and architectural changes.
